Crystals Handmade Story Quilts, Wall Hangings

Being self- suffient in every way was certainly the way you lived in the West. Either you grew it, built it or made it or you didn't survive; plain and simple!

One of the ways you were self-sufficient was to make your own clothing.

When clothing was outgrown or worn out, you salvaged the material and made it into a quilt. Now quilt making certainly requires skill and craftsmanship. And like other necessary jobs that were performed in the West, for example, all the events in what we now call a rodeo, quilt making became a form of entertainment for competition at fairs and gatherings. These occurred at the end of summer when all the work was done for the year and folks got together to enjoy each other's company.

Quilts were also created to tell a story. To remember an event that happened, to keep together keepsakes from your mother, father, grandmother, aunt.. These are passed down from generation to generation as precious heirlooms.

However, there are some gifted people who have taken quilting to an art form. We are proud to feature one of those artists, Crystal.

This Handmade Story Quilt was created for me by Crystal as a Christmas present after listening to me describe during our many conversations my vision or dream of what I would like my farm to look like. Crystal listened to me and duplicated it in even more detail than I imagined! When I saw it I realized what a gift she has.
